Working
from simple still life setups students will learn the
fundamentals of drawing. Step-by-by-step instruction in
building the form through line and value will be given.
Individual critiques covering the basics of drawing such
as proportions, value, construction and perspective will
be offered. No experience necessary.

Using tone
and line students will approach drawing like it was done
by the classical masters. Subject include still life and
live models. Students will focus on understanding the
movement and structure of the human body. Human anatomy
will be discussed. Individual critiques covering the
basics of drawing such as proportions, value,
construction and perspective will be offered. This course
is also good for students looking to develop a strong
college portfolio.

Drawing
at the Metropolitan Museum
There is
nothing more inspiring than studying the masterpieces at
the Met. Each class will include a short introduction
into to a specific period or art genre. Afterwords,
students will be advised in their choice of subject
matter to draw from. Individual critiques covering the
basics of drawing such as proportions, value,
construction and perspective will be offered. Class size
is limited to 12 students. Some prior drawing experience is
recommended before taking this class. This Winter the
class will focus on portrature.

College
Portfolio. Drawing and Painting from Observation.
During
this 12 weeks course which should be continued by a
student through more than one semester, students will
divide their time between drawing and painting in a
variety of media. Each class will include a short art
history lecture. Subjects include still life, portrait
and figure. Please note, that nude models are used in
this class. Minimum age is 15.
Time
permitting, visits to studios of practicing artists and
field trips to Museums will also be arranged in addition
to working in class.
As an
additional benefit for students, Bridgeview invites
college admissions councilors who talk about their
colleges and also review students' portfolios.

Watercolor
Painting
This class
for all levels of students who are interested in learning
special techniques of watercolor painting. Students will
work from observation. Subjects may include still life
and possibly portrait or figure. This class is taught by
Marina Tsesarskaya, who graduated from the Ukrainian
Academy of Fine Arts specializing in illustration and
watercolor techniques.

Landscape
painting on location. Paint New York.
Plein aire
painting class will meet on location. Variety of
inspiring locations will be explored including New York
Central Park, waterfronts and etc. New York scenery has
inspired many artists of the past including Child Hassam
and William Meritt Chase, to just name a few. Guided by
an experienced master artist students will pick a subject
and record their feelings through form and color. Aspects
of composition, color mixing, perspective and scale will
be discussed.
Students
may choose their own materials such as watercolor,
pastels, oils or pencils.

SPRING 2011

Bridgeview students painting in the Central Park
Old Master Painting Techniques. From
Grisaille to Glazing.
Using oil
or acrylic paints students will learn the time-tested Old
Master techniques of grisaille (monochrome) underpainting
and glazing, how it was done during the Renaissance and
by later masters such as Rubens and Rembrandt. Step by
step instruction will be provided by Samuel Kudish, a
mentor to many Bridgeview students. Some prior
drawing and painting experience is necessary.

CLASS BLOG
Class size
is limited to 13 students. We teach the time-tested classical techniques of the
Russian Academy, one of the oldest and most
respected art academies in the world.
Tuition
payment. Tution is due in full before the beginning
of class. A payment plan of 2 monthly payments may be
arranged provided payments are secured with a major
credit card.
Special
note. In our efforts to make this program
affordable to many students, we charge very low tuition,
($10 per hour of instructed classes). Also, Bridgeview
School does not charge any extra fees, such as
registration or model fees. Therefore, we need a minimum
of 10 students per class to cover our costs. If
enrollment is lower than 10, Bridgeview has the right to
cancel the class or charge an additional model fee. If
the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment,
tuition is fully refunded.
Studio
Access after class. Students can rent studio keys for
$75 per semester. Independant work is allowed only when
the studio is not occupied by another class.
Withdrawal
Policy. Students are allowed to withdraw before
the first day of class, in which case tuition is
reimbursed in full. Once classes begin, there are no
withdrawals allowed.
