John and Lena Murray, Bridgeview founders

Dear Students, Teachers and Friends,

Some of you may remember the early days of Bridgeview, in the aftermath of 9/11, when our student body consisted of about 12 adults and 2 kids. Now we are starting our seventh academic year with over a 100 students. In those 6 years, we've achieved a lot. Our students have exhibited at the Chelsea Art Museum, K-Place Gallery, Asian Cultural Center, ConEdison Learning Center and other venues. Many have been accepted to art colleges on generous scholarships (SVA, Pratt, FIT, Parson's, New York Academy of Figurative Art, ICA Boston, and etc.).

Many of Bridgeview teenage students are now studying at the prestigious LaGuardia High School of Visual and Performing Arts. One of our most important accomplishments is that in June of 2007, our former student, the 18 year old Ilya Mirochnik passed a series of examinations and was accepted into the painting program at the Repin Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St. Petersburg, Russia. Ilya will carry on one of the best artistic traditions. As of today, the Repin Academy is the only remaining classical academy in the world which accepts only the best students, and we are proud to be the only American school that has been able to establish this connection.

Also, for the first time in modern history, 20 Bridgeview students participated in two summer workshops at the Repin Academy in 2005 and 2006. Gregory Hedberg, Director of European Painting at Hirshl and Adler Gallery on Madison Avenue, referred to the work done in Russia as "excellent".

Our mission remains the same. We are grounded in the classical tradition when it comes to art training. We want to keep the school small and focus on those who are serious about becoming better artists. We especially welcome BFA graduates who want to improve their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and composition. We are launching a special intensive scholarship program for exceptionally talented young artists. And of course, we are committed to bringing this wonderful classical training to children.

Bridgeview strength lies in its faculty. Their superb classical training and their dedication to teaching is the best thing we can offer here. Aside from being a founder of this school I am also their former student. And I am extremely grateful for the knowledge and inspiration they gave me. Special thanks go to my husband John Murray and all of Bridgeview teachers including Samuel Kudish, Anna Rochegova, Asya Dodina, Polina Osnachuk, Ave Pluum, Alexander Razin, Vitaly Patrov and Larisa Dekermendzhi.

~Lena Murray, Bridgeview founder and director.
