College Portfolio. Drawing and Painting from Observation.

During this 12 weeks course which should be continued by a student through more than one semester, students will divide their time between drawing and painting in a variety of media. Each class will include a short art history lecture. Subjects include still life, portrait and figure. Please note, that nude models are used in this class. Minimum age is 14.

Time permitting, visits to studios of practicing artists and field trips to Museums will also be arranged in addition to working in class.

As an additional benefit for students, Bridgeview invites college admissions councilors who talk about their colleges and also review students' portfolios.

*Students will be given a list of supplies for this course.

Landscape Painting on Location. Paint New York.

Plein aire painting class will meet on location. Variety of inspiring locations will be explored including New York Central Park, waterfronts and etc. New York scenery has inspired many artists of the past including Child Hassam and William Meritt Chase, to just name a few. Guided by an experienced master artist students will pick a subject and record their feelings through form and color. Aspects of composition, color mixing, perspective and scale will be discussed.

Students may choose their own materials such as watercolor, pastels, oils or pencils.

The above two courses are taught by Harout Simonian

Harout studied classical painting and sculpture in Armenia. He has been teaching art since 1996 in a variety of disciplines including Sculpture, Drawing and Performance Art. Currently he is a guest teacher at the Cooper Union University. His work has been exhibited in major galleries and museums including the New Museum in New York. His video installation is currently featured by the prestigious New York Momenta Art Gallery.


Art Portfolio. Drawing at the Metropolitan Museum.

This class is for adults, but high school students are also welcome. There is nothing more inspiring than studying the masterpieces at the Met. This is an instructed class taught by Tatyana Zhurkov who will provide step by step guidance and critiques. The class will meet 8 consecutive Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Met. Tatyana Zhurkov is a Bridgeview instructor, whose work is in major museums includig the Smithsonian Institute in Washington and the Hermitage in Russia.

Note! Students need to have some drawing experience before enrolling in this course.
