Academic Drawing

Solid drawing skills make a good foundation for all art forms and genres. By understanding anatomy and perspective and mastering linear, stroke and value-based techniques students attain freedom to accurately portray any subject in two-dimensional or three-dimensional space. The drawing assignments are designed in conjunction with the painting assignments.

Level 1

Typical drawing assignments may include:

• a still life with simple white objects and drapery
• architectural reliefs
• a human skull
• Michelangelo's anatomical parts (nose, eye, mouth)
• a variety of casts including portrait busts
• portrait from life

Level 2

Drawing assignments may include:

• portrait from life
• legs, feet, arms, hands
• figure, dressed and nude

Level 3

• figure, nude
• two figure composition
• figure in dynamic motion
