John Murray
Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia. Apprenticed at the John Michael Angel Academy, Florence, Italy. At the Pennsylvania Academy, Murray received First Place Award in the Classical Study Category and Best in Show at 2002 Alumni Exhibition. As a finalist of the 2nd International Salon Competition at the Art Renewal Center was included in the 2005 catalogue. From 1999 until 2005 Murray worked as a Banknote Designer at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving of the U.S. Treasury. Currently he is a Sculpture teacher at the Corcoran School of Art and Design in Washington DC and a painting teacher at the Art Students League in Alexandria, Virginia.. In 2005, he received a faculty development grant from the Corcoran School of Art and Design. Murray is represented by the Nichols Gallery in Virginia and Newman Galleries in Philadelphia. Portrait commissions for the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2006, John Murray received a mural commission from the Georgetown University to paint 16 saints for the Jesuit Chapel at the Georgetown University in Washington DC.
