John Murray

Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia. Apprenticed at the John Michael Angel Academy, Florence, Italy.
At the Pennsylvania Academy, Murray received First Place Award in the Classical Study Category and Best in Show at 2002 Alumni Exhibition. As a finalist of the 2nd International Salon Competition at the Art Renewal Center was included in the 2005 catalogue. From 1999 until 2005 Murray worked as a Banknote Designer at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving of the U.S. Treasury. Currently he is a Drawing and Painting instructor at the Corcoran School of Art and Design in Washington DC. In 2005, he received a faculty development grant from the Corcoran School of Art and Design.
Murray is represented by the Century Gallery of Alexandria, VA, where he had 3 solo shows along with many group shows. Also represented by the Newman Gallery in Philadelphia, PA and Gardner Colby Gallery in Naples, Florida. Portrait commissions for the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2006, John Murray received a mural commission from the Georgetown University to paint 16 saints for the Jesuit Chapel at the Georgetown University in Washington DC.
John Murray is a co-founder of the Bridgeview School of Fine Arts and a guest artist.
