Portrait Sculpture Workshop 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. a course by Larisa Dekermendzhi and Vitaly Patrov
This course will allow students to analyze the human form by interpreting it in clay. Construction, anatomy and composition will be emphasized. The harmonious unity of the human form achieved by the Greeks, Romans, Renaissance and modern 19th century/early 20th century masters will be used as inspiration and reference. $450 plus
model fee (usually between $30 and $60 total, depending

Edouard Lanteri, a renowned French teacher and sculptor, whom Rodin called "my dear master" referred to relief as "an interpretation of nature, where the effect of perspective has to be produced by an arrangement of planes". During this workshop, students will study the principles and techniques of bas-relief. They will be guided through the entire process of building the form; from correct start to complete finish. Setup will include a live female model with draperies. The techniques and designs of the great bas-relief masters from the ancient Greeks to the modern sculptors will be discussed. Vitaly Patrov, a renowned Russian sculptor and a Bridgeview resident artist will do a demonstration by sculpting his own piece. Dates and

making techniques Through a series of demonstrations and exercises, students will learn the proper techniques of making a resin mold. They will make molds of a life-size portrait and figurative sculpture (15 - 22"). Students may choose to make molds of their own work. Dates and

Among major commissions, sculpture for New York Athletic Club, Kyoto Museum, Japan, Marina Academy, Long Island. In 1992 sculpted a monument to the Israeli athletes assassinated during the 1972 Olympics. Permanent collections include Kyoto Museum, Japan, the Art Museum of Riga, Latvia, New York Institute of Ukrainian History, Williamsburg Arts and History Center. Teaching experience includes the Kiev National Academy of Art, the New York Sculpture Center and the New York Studio School. Vitaly Patrov. M.F.A., Harkiv Art Academy, Ukraine.Winner of the 1997 C. Percival Dietsch Sculpture Award, National Sculpture Society, New York. National Award for equestrian monument to Ukrainian national hero G. Kotovsky. Patrov's sculpture "Leda and a Swan" adorns the central hall of the Strasbourg European Parliament building in Belgium. Mr. Patrov has thirty years of teaching experience as a tenure professor of sculpture at the Grekov Academy of Art in Odessa, Ukraine. |
