Figure Sculpture in Relief
a course by
Larisa Dekermendzhi and Vitaly Patrov

Edouard Lanteri, a renowned French teacher and sculptor, whom Rodin called "my dear master" referred to relief as "an interpretation of nature, where the effect of perspective has to be produced by an arrangement of planes".

During this workshop, students will study the principles and techniques of bas-relief. They will be guided through the entire process of building the form; from correct start to complete finish. Setup will include a live female model with draperies. The techniques and designs of the great bas-relief masters from the ancient Greeks to the modern sculptors will be discussed. Vitaly Patrov, a renowned Russian sculptor and a Bridgeview resident artist will do a demonstration by sculpting his own piece.
